Adding performance

If adhesives were to be manufactured without additives, the bonding result would likely be less than adequate. Air inclusions, poor miscibility and low filling rates would greatly impair adhesive performance. Selected additives are thus used in order to achieve the required performance profile in adhesives. With patented technologies and deep-rooted knowledge of the complex industrial processes involved, we support our customers with high-efficiency additives for their water-based adhesives.

Cognis solutions: FoamStar®, Foammaster® defoamers
FoamStar® defoamers, a line based on a revolutionary new defoaming technology, offer twice the efficiency at reduced cost. Used primarily in pressure-sensitive adhesives for tapes and labels, the latest product generation is even more effective and economical.
Ecological benefits: Ability to provide customers with defoamers that offer lower emissions (white-oil and hyperbranched polymer technology)
Performance benefits: Product solutions with different degrees of dispersibility for specific applications; product concepts that meet the requirements of the FDA, BGVV and EEC 90/128 directive

Cognis solutions: Dehydran® defoamers
Cognis has developed the Dehydran® P series specifically for the polymer dispersions segment. These defoamers offer good spontaneous, good long-term defoaming effects and can also be used in monomer-stripping processes. They are free of both solvents and silicones.

Cognis solutions: Hydropalat® dispersing agents
High-performance dispersants for waterborne emulsions that provide the perfect balance between efficacy and environmental compliance.

Cognis solutions: DSX® rheology additives
Different rheologies are required for different application profiles. DSX rheological additives help to control vertical stability.
Ecological benefits: Ability to provide customers with eco-friendly additive solutions with VOC levels either reduced or completely eliminated.
Performance benefits:

  • Improved surface wetting
  • Rapid drying
  • Lower application viscosity
  • Better adhesion properties
  • Curing at lower temperature
  • Better sagging stability
